Santa Clara Corvettes has established relationships with several of the communities and businesses in our area. In particular, we work closely with Los Altos, a bucolic town near Stanford University. We hold our monthly Business Meetings and our Board Meetings in the Masonic Hall on Main Street of Los Altos. As part of that, our members frequent several of the near-by restaurants, some of which have become sponsors of our club.
We also hold our major event of the year – the Corvette Spectacular Car Show – on the full length of Los Altos’ Main Street (about 6 blocks long). The Police Department clears out all traffic the night before and closes off Main Street from 5:00 AM until 6:00 PM on the day of our show. We bring in about 170 Corvettes for the day, and people patronize the various stores.
We also have a tradition of making donations to charitable, non-profit businesses each year. Depending on the health of our bank account, we usually donate $3,000 to $4,500 to local charities (where our members live). The money is distributed to three charities, which are selected based on nominations by club members and a vote of the membership at the December Business Meeting.
We also support a variety of businesses with our social events, which vary from simple get-togethers at nearby restaurants to driving tours with a specific destination – which could be a restaurant, a museum, or a bowling alley, among others.
Our involvement also includes sponsors of the club. We currently have 17, ranging from Chevrolet dealerships and repair shops to upholstery shops and restaurants. We rely on these sponsorships to carry out our activities at an affordable price for our members. (Visit our Sponsor page for more info.)
